The American Institute for Dental Public Health (AIDPH) has released its 2022 Impact Report highlighting achievements in oral health equity, affirming strategic priorities, and introducing a roadmap for the upcoming year.

"When I reflect on what we've accomplished in 2022, one word resonates above all: gratitude," said Executive Director Dr. Annaliese Cothron. "Gratitude to our leadership, funders, collaborators, and team. We've experienced the biggest growth we've ever had this past year, extending our impact beyond what we thought possible."

In 2022, AIDPH elevated oral health equity in three areas of focus: LGBTQIA+ people, rural health, and veterans. The organization announced a planned focus expansion for people with disabilities.

During 2022 advocacy efforts, Dr. Cothron joined policy experts and over 200 participants during the Oral Health Progress and Equity Network (OPEN) mid-year meeting to discuss critical issues facing dental public health, including Medicare and oral health access for priority populations. Dr. Cothron was also invited to a private roundtable conversation with members of congress to share AIDPH's research detailing oral health disparities impacting America's veterans.

Furthering a commitment to prepare future oral health leaders to support the needs of underserved communities, AIDPH began 2022 by hosting its annual conference, "Transforming Veteran Oral Health," followed by the initiation of its rural oral health certificate program. AIDPH ended the year by launching its inaugural Dental Public Health Leadership Academy, a program aimed at capacity-building of future oral health leaders. AIDPH awarded 350 continuing education units (CEUs), provided more than 400 hours of education to oral health professionals, and drew more than 1,000 attendees to its workshops, webinars and virtual events.

AIDPH advanced innovation through published research with strategic recommendations on veteran oral health, COVID-19's impact on the dental public health workforce, and improving the oral health of rural veterans. By pairing research with compelling data visualization, AIDPH directly influenced policy and shaped national oral health discourse for veterans, LGBTQIA+ people, and rural communities.

AIDPH achieved success this year through funding from CareQuest Institute for Oral Health, the Barstool Difference, Delta Dental Foundation of Iowa, and the National Network for Oral Health Access (NNOHA).
