Urban Music Basketball Association (UMBA) Officially Launches Across 16 States

Innovative music industry-driven professional basketball league, UMBA, announce their official launch with the debut camp to hold in Atlanta

ATLANTA, GA - A new professional basketball league fostered by music industry professionals, Urban Music Basketball Association (UMBA), might just be the next big thing to hit the world of basketball following their official launch. The mission of this league is to provide an opportunity for talented basketball players between the ages of 18 and 40 to play the sport on a high level as a career, and to provide employment for those described by many as one of the most popular sports in the United States.

Basketball has continued to captivate the attention of millions of fans of different age groups. Despite the popularity of basketball in the US and other parts of the world, thousands of talented players still struggle to make their mark. However, a group of basketball enthusiasts from the music industry is looking to change this narrative with the creation of the UMBA.

The UMBA is composed of 16 teams, a Western Conference and an Eastern Conference across 16 states. This innovative league will show the magic of basketball as it relates to music, ultimately delivering an unprecedented experience to music and basketball fans alike.

The camp and tryouts will run from September 20-23, 2021, in Atlanta, Georgia. This is an opportunity for some of the best known and unknown players to secure a one-million-dollar contract. The UMBA will award $160 million in contracts for its 16 teams collectively and only the first 500 players registered will be allowed to tryout.

The UMBA is in talks and close to inking a deal with one of the largest overseas online merchandising companies. The deal is said to be estimated at $3.5 Billion over 5 years.

Kingpin Skinny Pimp, a Memphis rap pioneer and social media music influencer, is a co-owner of the Tennessee Stars, a UMBA Team. With over 25 million streams on Spotify alone, Skinny was recently featured in Rolling Stone Magazine after a line from one of his songs went viral. The #NotTheThemometer challenge has garnered over a million TikTok dance videos globally.

“It’s cool to know my music still hits with the younger people which makes me even more excited about being a part of the UMBA family and the innovation it’s going to create between music and basketball,” Skinny said.

“As one of the owners of the Tennessee Stars, I look forward to finding players who want to get at it, compete and win the first UMBA championship in 2022.”

Skinny just completed two new songs for the UMBA’s first compilation album, featuring his daughter and son, due to be released in October 2021.
