By: Issuewire

Teen Sensations AMMON and LIAHONA blew away American Idol judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan with their audition performing “Boom”, which was released Friday, February 26th

Los Angeles, California Mar 16, 2021 (Issuewire.com) - 18-year-old Ammon Olayan and his 17-year-old sister Liahona began writing songs out of boredom when their family moved into a tent in Hawaii to be closer to their heritage. While Ammon and Liahona both auditioned for this season of American Idol and each received a golden ticket to Hollywood. The siblings also received the opportunity to perform together for the judges, which was televised on February 21st.

The song Ammon and Liahona performed together is called  "Boom" and it will be released on February 26th via a distribution deal with EMPIRE Records. Liahona sat behind the piano to play the song while she and Ammon sang for American Idol judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan. Perry commended the duo's songwriting and compared Liahona's vocals to Alessia Cara while Luke Bryan called their performance "absolute magic".

Ammon and Liahona were raised in a fun-loving home with their six younger siblings by a Polynesian mother, a real estate broker, and their father, an investor, who believed in the motto of "family is first". That belief led Ammon and Liahona's parents to quit their jobs, pack up the family, and leave Utah to reconnect to their roots and land in Hawaii.

"With just our suitcases and a desire to be free from the busy world we were living in, we went from the big city to the land of Hawaii. Our family had to resort to living in a tent, pretty much homeless, with no electricity, having to shower with a water hose, with no TV nor music. We raised 33 chickens, milked goats, ate fruits from the land, caught fish, went to the beach, and spent lots of time together," says Ammon.

Without the distractions of normal teen life, Ammon turned to music and wrote his first song at thirteen as well as learned the ukelele. Liahona followed in her brother's footsteps with writing and singing songs and even taught herself piano.

Only a year apart, the siblings are known for being fiercely competitive with one another, but now that they'll be competing against each other on American Idol, they remind themselves why they are doing it. "If you do what you love, it's always going to be fun," Liahona Olayan said. "But if you forget about that and you're always just trying to be the best of the best and you don't even remember why you're there, there's really no point in doing it."

"Boom" is the first of many songs Ammon and Liahona will be releasing. They are currently working on putting out a self-penned album together. The themes of their upcoming music navigate through the life lessons they have learned through their weaknesses, trials, gratitude, and errors. Their songs are meant to offer inspiration, encouragement, and hope.
