Washington Eye Doctors Named 2024 Change Agent by the Myopia Collective

Chevy Chase, Maryland -

Chevy Chase, MD — Washington Eye Doctors have announced that this year they’ve been awarded the title of Change Agent by the Myopia Collective. This is an important title given to eye care practices that are committed to going above and beyond in the field of myopia management. They are among the inaugural class of Myopia Collect Change Agents — meaning when it comes to finding eye care teams that innovate, push the boundaries of knowledge, and instigate change in their communities, Washington Eye Doctors is considered one of the leading experts on nearsightedness in the United States.

“We have always worked diligently to create personal connections with patients and offer comprehensive eye care services so we can provide full support for people of all ages,” said Michael Rosenblatt, O.D. “Rates of nearsightedness have gotten worse over the course of our careers, and we have responded accordingly: patient education, technological investment, staff training — but we can only do so much by ourselves. Being a Change Agent for the Myopia Collective will allow us to impact the lives of patients all over the country.”

The announcement was made at the end of June by the American Optometric Association (AOA) and CooperVision — in addition to citing the first class of Change Agents, this groundbreaking, industry-wide partnership is a rallying cry to the entire optometry profession.

Nearsightedness is on the rise; rates of myopia are climbing, and it is estimated that by 2030, 40% of the world’s population will be nearsighted. The AOA, the Myopia Collective, and all the eye care practices that have vowed to pool their knowledge and resources is a way for the entire industry to do what it can to fight back.

“We can’t force kids to go outside and spend time in the sunlight,” said Dr. Rosenblatt. “It’s even getting difficult to suggest to parents that kids spend more time without screens. Which means we need to come at this problem from another angle. How do we make myopia management more accessible? More effective? More budget-friendly? And our team is very happy that we get to be part of those conversations.”

Change Agents will receive specialized training in myopia management. They’ll also learn how to spread awareness, lead legislative initiatives, and provide advocacy and education to their communities. Change Agents will also attend a multi-day workshop in Chicago in September, where they’ll study proven techniques for growing a myopia management program, study strategies for state and federal outreach, and how to positively impact pediatric eye care.

Parents interested in scheduling a myopia assessment for their child, or patients who simply want to schedule an appointment, should call their Arlington location at (703) 468 – 4352, Chevy Chase at (301) 965 – 1879, or their downtown D.C. office at (202) 972 – 7738. All three are currently accepting new and existing patients.
