New novel "The Tides" by Christopher Dimarzio is released, the story of a portrait artist, his subjects, and navigating the nuances of their lives to find common humanity

“The Tides” by Christopher Dimarzio has been released worldwide. This 331-page work of literary fiction, which has achieved Amazon Bestseller status, follows portrait artist Patrick Castingway as he travels the United States getting to know his subjects in an effort to paint more than just their outward appearances. He forms relationships with each portrait subject and the people in their lives, embroiling himself in their tragedies and triumphs while learning about himself in the process.

His encounters delve into the subtleties of the human condition, reminding readers that while life is rarely perfect, such imperfection can still be a source of great joy. Even in moments of sadness and difficulty, the story prompts introspection, reflection, and examination of the common experiences that unite people from all walks of life.

With emotional encounters ranging from heartbreaking to hilarious, Dimarzio shows the multifaceted nature of humanity, drawing from a deep well of personal experiences and compassionate observations to create nuanced characters and relatable situations throughout the novel. The author’s passion for art is reflected in the protagonist’s attention to detail and the great care he puts into each portrait, while the character’s transformative arc shows the possibilities available to all people when they’re willing to open themselves to meaningful connections.

A truly endearing story of unity, creativity, and the beauty all around us, Christopher Dimarzio’s debut novel is an inspiring exploration of human connection in all its myriad forms.

From the back cover:

Patrick Castingway is an American portrait artists who travels the country, spending weeks at a time living with, and learning about, the people whose portraits he will be painting next. Hoping to better represent them on canvas, he focuses his attention not so much on the outward beauty of his subjects, but on the beauty within them. We all strive for harmony in our lives, but in life, there is always conflict rising or receding, and with each new stop, Patrick invariably gets pulled into theirs. And it is at some of the lowest points in life that we reveal our truest selves. From one place to the next, he shares their joys and sorrows, their laughter and tears. Some visits are more contentious than others but in the end, in some small way, he helps his subjects find resolution, which for years is something he's searched for himself but until now has been unable to find.

About the author:

Although Chris Dimarzio’s occupation has had little to do with the arts, his recreational pursuits have been deeply rooted in them. He enjoys painting and sculpting, and his life long appreciation for architecture, art, theater, and music led him to co-founding WorkShop13, an arts and cultural center for performance and learning. It is there within an old renovated Queen Anne Church, area artists gather to share their talents. And it is there that he was inspired to take his hand at writing. This book, The Tides, represents his first work. Chris and his wife Lisa reside in Ware Massachusetts, in the home they raised their three children, Denver, Julia and Sydney.
