Dear Valued Supplier:
I am excited to report that, as announced this morning, Qualcomm has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Atheros. This acquisition, approved by both companies boards of directors, represents an exceptional opportunity for us to significantly enhance our customer offeringwith a broader technology portfolio, more complete platforms, and more robust worldwide customer engagement and support.
By bringing together a leading provider of mobile chipsets and WAN technology and a leading provider of LAN connectivity solutions, we believe our combined portfolio will bolster our customers ability to deliver innovative and differentiated products in the increasingly converged mobile and computing markets. Our combined solutions should also address the growing demands of the networking, consumer electronics and broadband access markets.
The acquisition, which is subject to customary regulatory approvals, is expected to close in the first half of 2011. Until then, Atheros remains an independent company conducting business as usual. Leading up to the close, we will devise integration plans with Qualcomm to help us most effectively work with our production suppliers. As these plans unfold, we will share them with you. We ask that you understand that this relationship is brand new and there are numerous details yet to be determined.
Over the past 10+ years, Atheros has grown from a startup to one that ships 100 million chipset a quarter. We clearly could not have accomplished this without the support of our strategic suppliers. We very much value your support of Atheros and contribution to our success and I look forward to our continued mutual success going forward.
Best regards,
Hing Chu
