The Trade Remedies Authority (TRA) has initiated a transition review into anti-dumping measures on hot rolled flat and coiled (HRFC) steel from Russia, Ukraine, Brazil and Iran.
A transition review in to anti-subsidy measures on imports of stainless steel bars and rods from India has also been undertaken by the TRA.
Both reviews are among those that the UK inherited from the EU system and are being reviewed to ensure they are still suitable for the UK’s needs.
HRFC steel is used mainly in the fields of mechanical and electrical engineering, construction and the automotive sector, claims the TRA. Stainless steel bars, on the other hand, are commonly used in aerospace, automotive and food processing industries and are used in the manufacture of tools, machine parts and components as they can be easily cut and machined, according to the TRA.
For both product types, the investigation period under review will be from 1 April 2021 to 31 March 2022, but the injury period is from 1 April 2018 to 31 March 2022.
A suspension investigation into anti-dumping measures concerning HRFC steel from Ukraine in the light of Russia’s invasion.
Oliver Griffiths, chief executive officer of the TRA, commented: “This week we have launched two transition reviews into measures on steel products, spanning imports from India, Russia, Ukraine, Brazil and Iran. Alongside this, following a request from the government of Ukraine we will investigate whether a suspension of measures on certain Ukrainian steel products is justified because of changed market conditions after the Russian invasion.”
