Theme: “The Politics of Food: Scarcity as an Issue of Justice” BADC’s Rawle Andrews Jr. to serve as a Featured Panelist of 22nd Annual Youth Law Fair

Washington, D.C, District of Columbia Mar 15, 2021 (Issuewire.com) - On March 20, 2021, the Bar Association of the District of Columbia (BADC) will join District-area students, elected and appointed officials, bench and bar leaders, legal practitioners, educators, and family caregivers for the D.C. Bar's 22nd Annual Hon. Melvin R. Wright Youth Law Fair. This year's virtual program will offer a free, half-day educational experience that tackles food scarcity and social justice through the lens of an "Ask A Lawyer" panel, interactive breakout sessions, and a mock trial. Past conference topics have included social media use, bullying, and racial profiling.

"Despite the many lasting, adverse impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, this ordeal has shed new light on what it means to live a purposeful life, the immeasurable value of a civics education, and why we must protect the rule of law," said Rawle Andrews Jr., Esq., BADC treasurer and a past D.C. Bar Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year. "The program's focus on ending hunger, achieving food security, and promoting nutrition also is timely." The USDA estimates that over 35 million Americans live in food-insecure households, including nearly 13 million children and more than 5.3 million older adults (including 1 in 7 District households).

"We cannot get to zero hunger until we face this crisis head-on and work together to challenge the status quo. It is a privilege to be able to contribute to the ongoing success of this laudable program," Andrews added.
