Legendary Actor Hal Holbrook Bringing "Mark Twain Tonight!" to Northeast Florida
ORANGE PARK, Fla. - March 27, 2016 - PRLog -- Thrasher-Horne Center is proud to present one of the longest running shows in theatre history, Hal Holbrook's "Mark Twain Tonight!" on Friday, April 22 at 7:30 PM. With over 2,256 performances, this one man show is currently in its 62nd consecutive year.

"It is an honor to add Thrasher-Horne Center to the list of venues that have presented the legendary Hal Holbrook," said Thrasher-Horne Center Executive Director Denton Yockey. "His 'Mark Twain Tonight' is as funny and contemporary today as it was when it first began decades ago."

It could be said that Hal Holbrook comes as close to the early American touring actors - Joseph Jefferson, Edwin Booth, and James O'Neill - as anyone on the stage today. While 2016 is the 62nd consecutive year for this one man show, it has never stopped evolving. Holbrook has developed over fifteen hours of Twain selections to choose from, cutting through the chorus of opinions today with a voice soaked in humor and history as it happened over a century ago.

Ninety-one-year-old Hal Holbrook has aged but his Mark Twain has not. "He keeps me fired up, asking questions," said Holbrook. The show was developed in a Greenwich Village nightclub in 1956, landed on the Ed Sullivan show and opened off-Broadway in 1959.

In 1966, Holbrook won a Tony Award on Broadway in a return engagement of "Mark Twain Tonight!" and was seen by 30 million people in a ninety-minute CBS television special. By this time Holbrook was an actor of many roles and disguises, with 12 Emmy Award nominations on television and over 40 feature films including Magnum Force, All the President's Men, Wall Street, Water for Elephants, Lincoln and Sean Penn's Into The Wild for which he received an Academy Award nomination.

Tickets for Hal Holbrook's "Mark Twain Tonight" are now available at the Thrasher-Horne Center Box Office. Ticket prices range from $49 to $69.

The Thrasher-Horne Center is a not-for profit performing arts venue and conference center owned and operated by St. Johns River State College. It is located on the Orange Park campus at 283 College Drive in Orange Park, Florida. Tickets and more information are available at (904) 276-6815 or online at THcenter.org.
