Electric Motorcycles Win Title For Third Year At Pikes Peak

Hollywood Electrics Racing sweeps podium at Pikes Peak on Zero Motorcycles and continues their Production Electric Motorcycle Class Winning Streak.
PRLog - June 30, 2015 - WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. -- Hollywood Electrics Racing fielded a team of three riders in the 93rd Annual Pikes Peak International Hill Climb (PPIHC), dominating the Electric Production Motorcycle Class.

Jeff Clark (#777) maintained his top position for a third consecutive year with a time of 12:06 on a Zero SR Electric Motorcycle. Returning from a one year hiatus Pikes Peak veterans Nathan Barker (#880) and Brandon Nozaki-Miller (#111) followed hot on his heels for a second and third place times of 12:37 and 13:10.

Despite the inclement weather which affected many portions of the race, the Electric Motorcycles were able to start early in the morning and arrived at the summit just in time to avoid rain and hail delays. After a temporary weather halt to all racing, the motorcyclists were escorted by snowplows off of the summit to Glen Cove, which ultimately became the finish line for many automobile racers.

“It has been an honor to complete the race for the third time with all the incredible riders who put their hearts and souls into this endeavor. I’d like to thank my family, friends, and sponsors without whom I could not have accomplished this win at Pikes Peak,” said Clark of his Electric Production Motorcycle Class first place finish.

In the Electric Modified Motorcycle Class, Yoshihiro Kishimoto rode the custom Mirai Electric Motorcycle to victory with a time of 10:58. Powered by a Zero powertrain supplied by Hollywood Electrics, Kishimoto wrested the Electric Modified Motorcycle class win from the Ohio State University Buckeye Current Team.

Amongst the cars competing in this year’s event, electric vehicles took the first and second overall positions, piloted by Rhys Millen and Nobuhiro 'Monster' Tajima respectively. The great showing of Electric Vehicles at Pikes Peak further accentuates the fact that the time for gasoline powered vehicles is drawing to an end.

“The Zero Motorcycle is an excellent platform for a Race Bike and our Hollywood Electrics performance parts make events such as Pikes Peak possible,” said Team Owner Harlan Flagg of Hollywood Electrics Racing. “All year long our team has been racing these bikes at tracks from Chuckwalla to Sonoma, and in that time we’ve needed to do little more than change the tires and brake pads to prepare them for the next race. Pikes Peak presents some unique challenges to the bikes and the riders, and I’m very happy that our team made it safely to the top without incident.”

All three racers were on Zero Motorcycles’ SR Models which boast an incredible 0-60mph in 3.3 seconds, a top speed exceeding 100mph, and are made in Santa Cruz, California. Electric Motorcycles are able to deliver consistent performance at any altitude, unaffected by the thin air that wreaks havoc on the fuel mixture of their Internal Combustion Powered counterparts.

“Zero Motorcycles is extremely proud of the job the Hollywood Electrics team puts forth each year at this event. They are truly pioneers in the sport. We congratulate the entire team and especially all the support volunteers who worked so hard to make it a success,” said Scot Harden, VP of Global Marketing for Zero Motorcycles.

Hollywood Electrics was also proud to debut their solar powered race support vehicle for clean, off-grid charging of the Zero Electric Motorcycle Race Bikes. GO GREEN Mobile Power’s solar solution played an integral part in keeping the three Zero Motorcycles charged for the race and practice days.
