Over 80 Percent of Moms Will Turn to Technology – Voice or Video Call – to Share Quality Time with Their Loved Ones This Mother’s Day

More than half of moms surveyed throughout the nation won’t be spending time with their loved ones this Mother’s Day, according to a recent survey**, fielded by Mom Central Consulting. The survey reveals that while they may be separated from their families on Mother’s Day, they will find other means to connect. An overwhelming majority of moms (80 percent) turn to technology to share quality time. Increasingly, moms rely on voice and video calls to be together with their loved whenever they are apart.

Skype continues to break down barriers to communication, by offering products such as free voice & video calls, group video calling and low rates to landlines or mobiles virtually anywhere in the world. In addition, this Mother’s Day Skype is also making it easier than ever to celebrate moms, grandmothers, aunts or anyone who makes you feel loved by encouraging daughters and sons to send a “Say it with Skype Mom You Rock” free video card at www.facebook.com/skype or by visiting skype.com this Mother’s Day. You can even create the card early and schedule it for delivery on Mother’s Day. For every card that is created, Skype will donate one dollar to Save the Children on behalf of its Mom's the Word campaign.*

“Being with family – especially one’s mother matters most during special holidays and moments. However, often an in-person trip is simply not possible,” said Stacy DeBroff, CEO of MomCentral. “If you cannot travel to see your mom in person this Mother’s Day, you can still give her quality time by using Skype to connect via a video chat, Skype video greeting card or even invite your siblings to join a group video call to wish mom a Happy Mother’s Day together.”

It is no longer a surprise that mom strongly relies on technology to keep her family connected. In fact:

  • 93 percent of moms report that technology makes their life easier
  • 77 percent of moms feel that technology has brought them closer to their family members
  • 92 percent rely on technology to connect with family members anytime or anywhere
  • 80 percent of moms use technology to share a moment ordinarily limited by time or distance
  • 53 percent of moms feel like their children share more meaningful moments with their grandparents thanks to the ubiquitous nature of technology

“Moms of all ages have embraced technology because it helps them keep their families close together,” says DeBroff. “Video calling is becoming the next best thing to being somewhere in person because people can share special moments in real-time whether it be a monumental life occasion like baby’s first steps or an everyday moment like saying ‘I love you.’”
