UK Glioblastoma GoFundMe For Urgent Treatment Donations With £100K Goal Launched

A UK resident has launched a GoFundMe campaign seeking £100,000 for her partner's specialised glioblastoma treatment, as data shows median survival of just 7 months without aggressive intervention.

-- Asta Pratapaviciene has started a public fundraiser called "You're My Only Hope" to support her partner Raimondas, who was recently diagnosed with glioblastoma—a highly aggressive and often fatal form of brain cancer. The campaign seeks to raise £100,000 for private treatment that offers a specialised approach beyond standard therapies.

According to a study in England, glioblastoma patients face a median survival of only 7 months. Even with aggressive treatment combining surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy, median survival typically extends to just 16 months. Only 29% of patients receive this multi-modality treatment, highlighting significant gaps in care. The five-year survival rate remains at approximately 5% in the UK.

Raimondas's condition has left the couple grappling with both emotional and financial strain. Having built a life together over the past eight years following previous divorces, they now face an uncertain future. Standard options such as radiotherapy and chemotherapy have limited efficacy against glioblastoma's aggressive progression.

"We were planning our future together when everything changed overnight with this diagnosis," said Pratapaviciene. "After extensive research, I learned of a specialised treatment that targets this specific cancer. This offers hope, but the cost is far beyond what we can afford on our own."

At the time of writing, the fundraiser has received £5,990 from 109 donors. While the campaign has drawn early support, it remains far from its intended goal. All contributions are backed by the GoFundMe Giving Guarantee, which protects donations of any amount for a full year after the contribution date, with worldwide coverage regardless of donor location.

"Raimondas is full of life and not ready to give up—and neither am I," Pratapaviciene added. "Every donation, no matter how small, brings us closer to giving him a fighting chance against this devastating cancer."
