Stepping into the world of Michelle Renee feels like entering a masterclass on resilience, ambition, and unyielding determination. As the reigning Mrs. Manhattan US Nation 2024, Michelle’s journey from a small-town girl with big dreams to a celebrated fashion professional is a narrative that inspires and captivates.
Michelle arrived in New York City with a suitcase full of aspirations and little else. She had her sights set on the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), but the reality of life in one of the world’s most competitive cities hit hard. By the end of her first semester, she found herself juggling the need to earn a living while pursuing her education. Determined to succeed, she assembled a professional portfolio and landed a full-time position as an Assistant Fashion Designer—a rare feat for someone so early in their career.

After a few years of working as an Assistant Designer, Michelle’s hard work earned her a role as a Senior Technical Designer for J.Crew, focusing on menswear across all woven and outerwear categories. Her career flourished as she held Senior Technical Designer roles at esteemed brands such as Alexander Julian, Calvin Klein, Boston Trading Company, and Ann Taylor Loft.
Michelle’s nearly 15-year tenure at Brooks Brothers marked a significant chapter in her career. There, she honed her skills in men’s tailored suiting and expanded her expertise to include womenswear as well as girls’ and boys’ clothing. This foundation of excellence prepared her for her next major role at Hudson Bay Company (HBC), where she served as Senior Technical Designer for the entire menswear department. At HBC, Michelle’s work extended across a portfolio of prestigious brands, including Saks Fifth Avenue, Saks Off Fifth, Lord & Taylor, and Hudson Bay stores throughout Canada.
Behind the glamour of her accomplishments lies a story of grit. A three-time cancer survivor, Michelle credits her success to her unwavering determination. “I will never give up on living and achieving my dreams,” she says.

In January 2019, her resilience was tested once again when a car accident left her with debilitating injuries, including a broken hip, spinal damage, and nerve issues that required multiple surgeries. While the road to recovery was grueling, Michelle refused to let the accident define her future. Through months of physical therapy, she pushed through pain and setbacks, determined to rebuild her life and continue pursuing her dreams.
Today, Michelle is living out another of her lifelong ambitions: walking the runway. She celebrates the industry’s progress in embracing diversity and inclusivity. “As a teenager, I was self-conscious about my curvy shape,” she admits. “Thankfully, today the fashion industry has diversified, including women of all shapes, sizes, and heights.” Modeling for designers who highlight the beauty in every body, Michelle is proud to be part of this positive evolution.
Her mission extends beyond the runway. As Mrs. Manhattan US Nation 2024, she uses her platform to inspire women to overcome adversity and pursue their goals. “I strive to be an inspiration to women who must overcome handicaps and the disadvantaged,” she says. “I will always urge women who have a dream to pursue them and never give up.”
From tailoring school uniforms as a child to gracing the runways of celebrated designers, Michelle Renee’s story is a shining example of perseverance, passion, and the belief that no obstacle is too great to overcome. As Mrs. Manhattan US Nation, Michelle has dazzled on the runway at Super Chic New York and Milan Fashion Week, with more appearances to come. This June, she will vie for the prestigious Mrs. New York US Nation 2025 crown. Show your support and follow her journey on Instagram: @mrsmanhattanusnation.
