Mono Plan Announces Live-Action and CGI Animation Featuring K-pop Idols and Virtual Musicians

By: Get News

Mono Plan Co., Ltd., a digital entertainment IP startup founded by key personnel from CJ ENM, Korea's leading entertainment and media company, will hold an animation production announcement for two virtual musician IPs at the '2024 Character Licensing Fair' at COEX in Seoul starting from July 18. The first animation is based on 'Toggles,' digital musicians from seven music genres—EDM, hip-hop, reggae, jazz, folk, disco, and rock—owned by Mono Plan Co., Ltd. The story revolves around a girl who dreams of becoming an idol but falls into despair after failing all her auditions. She accidentally finds a Toggles keyring, which leads her into the virtual space called the ‘Toggles Universe.’ In this universe, she acquires the musical abilities needed to become an idol, such as songwriting, composing, dancing, and vocals, through music battles with the Toggles. The animation, titled 'Dream Big,' will unveil its first trailer during this production announcement.

'Dream Big' will be produced as a live-action composite CGI animation, where the scenes featuring the girl in the real world are filmed in live-action, and the scenes within the Toggles Universe featuring the Toggles are created using CGI animation. Yang Woo-jin, the CEO and executive producer of Mono Plan Co., Ltd., stated, "The most suitable format to effectively express the story of 'Dream Big,' which features idols, the protagonists of the K-pop industry, and virtual musicians, the new trend in the entertainment industry in the AI era, is a live-action and CGI composite animation." The production company announced that they plan to cast the main character from among K-pop idols within 2024.

The second animation is based on 'Wimp,' a virtual EDM duo created by benchmarking 'Daft Punk.' 'Wimp' features twin brothers Uno and Zero, who were born with different destinies—one as a killer and the other as a DJ. The music noir animation is set in a secretive club in Dublin, the capital of Ireland. 'Wimp' was already serialized as a webtoon with a total of 15 episodes on the global webtoon platform Tapas Media in 2017. Despite the limitations of being in black and white, it received great love from a dedicated fanbase.

According to Mono Plan, the production company, the EDM band 'Wimp,' formed by the two brothers in the animation, will debut as virtual artists after the animation airs. They will release music and hold virtual concerts, among other activities. 'Wimp' will also unveil its first trailer at the 2024 Character Licensing Fair.
