This morning, we announced that Akebia Therapeutics, Inc. (Akebia) and Keryx Biopharmaceuticals, Inc. (Keryx) are planning to merge to create a fully integrated biopharmaceutical company focused on the development and commercialization of therapeutics for patients with kidney disease.
The merger demonstrates a commitment to developing and delivering innovative therapeutic products for patients with kidney disease. We expect to complete the merger with Keryx by the end of 2018, following the satisfaction of customary closing conditions, including approval by the shareholders of both companies.
We remain committed to the conduct of the vadadustat clinical program. Akebia will continue to be the Sponsor for the vadadustat clinical trials, and there will be no change to the management and conduct of the trials.
