Diverse School Chaplaincy Programs: Tailored Training For Education Announced

The National School Chaplain Association (NSCA), the governing body for school chaplains in the United States, announces its tailored training programs developed to welcome more diversity into the school chaplaincy community.

Norman, United States - July 27, 2023

Diversity is an essential value for the NSCA and it is one which they uphold in their placement of school chaplains in both private and public, as well as denominational and non-denominational schools across the United States. Now, they are bringing their leading ethos of diversity to their own professional chaplaincy training programs with a view to welcoming a more diverse candidature to the vital role of the school chaplain.

The NSCA is proud of the diverse face of education in the US today and they hope that with their recently announced tailored chaplaincy training programs, they can create more diversity within the school chaplain community. Although the NSCA has traditionally welcomed previously accredited teachers and individuals with ministerial experience into their training programs, they now have a completely open call for applications.

Although a college-level degree is advantageous, individuals now need only a high school diploma to apply to NSCA’s school chaplaincy training programs. As NSCA has switched to online learning, they are now better able to create completely personalized study paths that will be completed - via distance education - in conjunction with Oral Roberts University in Oklahoma.

Because of this partnership, NSCA can provide each trainee with a precise course of study, one which considers their prior studies and experiences, or helps them take their very first step towards chaplaincy.

NSCA has an online portal that can help an interested applicant quickly determine what they will require to apply and will advise them of their required course of study. They also have a passionate team of chaplain accreditors who can provide more personalized support over the phone.

The NSCA believes school chaplains have never been more vital, and they are committed to creating a diverse chaplaincy community that can help today’s children and young people.

A spokesperson for the association said, “The National School Chaplain Association (NSCA) was established to promote school chaplains as a legitimate and necessary member of a school staff through national standards for school chaplains. NSCA is a Christian chaplain ministry that provides spiritual care, counseling, and practical community support to Pre-K through 12th grade students, teachers, and their families regardless of age, race, creed, color, sex, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, marital status, or socioeconomic status.”
