"Third Thursdays" harmolodic jazz "party" kicks into November with host Dave Bryant, joined by Fred Williams, James Kamal Jones, & Matt Lavelle

By: PRLog

"Third Thursdays" monthly harmolodic jazz series continues on Thursday, November 17, with former Ornette Coleman collaborator Dave Bryant (keyboards), hosting fellow Prime Time colleagues Fred Williams (bass) and James Kamal Jones (drums), with Matt Lavelle (trumpet, bass clarinet).

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Oct. 31, 2022 - PRLog -- Harmolodic jazz genius Ornette Coleman once claimed that "It was when I found out I could make mistakes that I knew I was on to something." Keyboardist Dave Bryant, whose jazz roots and practice stem from Coleman's guidance, has created a monthly harmolodic jazz scene, where all the participants dig into this on-to-something playfulness, often resulting in a celebratory and mind-boggling spree.

If this coming month's "Third Thursdays" lineup is any indication, Bryant's monthly harmolodic jazz "party" will indeed be in full swing. For November, Bryant has invited Prime Time colleagues Fred Williams (bass, allaboutjazz.com/member-fred-williams-bassist) and James Kamal Jones (drums, facebook/james.k.jones.735.com), along with Matt Lavelle (trumpet & bass clarinet, nosoundleftbehind.com), to join him in the fun process of channeling their first-hand individual and collective inner-Coleman.

Bryant offers his perspective on what November's "Third Thursday" could conjure up: "This month offers a very special harmolodic deep dive with Fred Williams, who was a member of the early and overlooked proto-Prime Time with James "Blood" Ulmer and Ronald Shannon Jackson, as well as James Kamal Jones, an under-documented Prime Time contributor in the '80s, and Matt Lavelle, a longtime collaborator with Bern Nix and a student of Ornette's."

-- December 15: Dave Bryant (keyboards) hosting a reunion of his '80's band Shock Exchange with John Turner (bass) and Chris Bowman (drums), along with mentor and good friend George Garzone (saxophones), who also joined them for the 1999 CD The Eternal Hang. [Liner notes for Shock Exchange's first record were written by Ornette Coleman.]

The "Third Thursdays with Dave Bryant and Friends" harmolodic jazz series began this past April, with the overall goal of showcasing a diverse range of Boston-area musical artists, as well as Dave Bryant's fellow Ornette Coleman sidemen. The "Third Thursdays" harmolodic jazz series is funded in part by the Appalachian Springs Foundation (ASF), a private foundation located in Charleston, WV. As a nonprofit arts and educational organization, ASF has supported dance, film, music, and educational projects.
