Black-Owned Tech Non-Profit Provides I.T. Training to Minority YouthMinor-I.T. is empowering black minority youth to succeed in the I.T. field.

Minor-I.T., an LA-based black-owned tech non-profit, is opening avenues for African American and black minority youths to enter and succeed in the I.T. industry by offering curated educational tools, training, and mentoring. It aims to change the current landscape and improve representation for the black community in I.T.

“For me, breaking into I.T., getting certs, and things like that were hard. I also noticed there were rarely people that looked like me in these positions. I want to change that,” says Stephen Jones, CTO and founder of Minor-I.T.

According to current data, only 7% of Black Americans hold I.T. positions in the U.S. Tech sector, while whites hold over 60%. This large disparity in numbers underscores the need for better educational opportunities for the minority.

“I want more black kids to get excited about I.T. and hopefully get them jobs paying $20+ an hour. Could you imagine what a $20/hr job can do for a household nowadays? We’re helping in any ways that we can and are looking for any black/African American kids looking to get into I.T.,” added Jones.

Through its initiatives, Minor-I.T. gives hope to the black community, enabling them to be a part of a lucrative industry and improve their prospects for financial security. The non-profit says it will ensure cultural competencies for all interested youths and will remain committed to seeing them become the next generation of leaders in I.T.
