Auralis Botanical Brewing Company is thrilled to launch its range of innovative alcohol-free botanical tonics brewed with functional mushrooms; reishi, lion’s mane and chaga. The unique drinks are 100% plant-based and create a fantastic drinking experience, especially for the sober curious and those looking for alcohol-free beverages that don’t contain sugar or sweeteners.

Auralis was founded by Chef Mike McKenzie and Andreas Duess, two friends with a history of launching successful food and drink brands, most recently Audacious Food Marketing and Seed to Sausage

The drinks were conceived when Andreas noticed the negative impact of alcohol on his sleep; looking for alternatives, he could not find any products he was 100% happy with. This led him to experiment with various botanical blends in his home, going as far as purchasing a copper still.

At the same time, Chef Mike studied functional mushrooms and their benefits. The two friends combined their knowledge and findings to create these innovative botanical supertonics

“Our drinks make functional, nootropic, and adaptogenic plants available and accessible to everybody as part of a beautifully balanced range of alcohol-free botanical tonics, each with a distinct flavour profile,” said Andreas Duess.

The adaptogens and botanicals used in the tonics include sumac, juniper, and elderberries, all plants that are native to Canada’s boreal forests. The plants are steam-distilled to extract their unique flavours. The resulting distillates are then added to the brewing process with functional mushroom extracts, before being micro-filtered and carbonated, then canned.

“The process is inspired by the production of gin and other botanical spirits, except that we don’t use alcohol for flavour extraction”, says Mike McKenzie.

“People tend to think of faraway places like the Amazon when they think about the next superfood,” said Mick McKenzie. “But you only have to look around, and there’s a wealth of fantastic plants available right here in our own back yard.”

“Working with local botanicals also helps with sustainability”, adds Andreas. “The functional mushrooms we use are either sustainably wild-harvested in the northern forests or grown on hardwood. Additionally, our packaging is 100% plastic-free and aluminum cans have an 80%+ recycle rate in Canada.”

Adaptogens, which naturally help the body relieve stress by stabilizing and optimizing physiological functions, bring out the natural botanical goodness in the tonics. The tonics contain no colors, sodium, caffeine, sugar, or artificial sweeteners.

“Our drinks contain zero calories. We’re relying on the brightness of our natural ingredients to deliver amazing flavors. Our tonics are also suitable for all people and taste amazing.”

Medicinal mushrooms, also known as functional mushrooms, have made big news in recent years with consumers’ interest at an all-time high. This global interest has sparked an appreciation for products made with medicinal mushrooms, like the Auralis tonics.

The drinks retail in more than 400 stores, restaurants, gyms, and wellness clinics across Canada, including Whole Foods and many others. People can also buy them online through Auralis Botanical’s website.
