Expedition Leader Garrett Madison and his Climbing Team Have Successfully Summited Mt. Everest

On Target to Lead Clients to Summits of Everest, Lhotse, and Nuptse - Climbing's Triple Crown - in a Single Season

(PRUnderground) May 31st, 2024

Veteran climber and America’s premier Mount Everest expedition leader, Garrett Madison, and his team of six clients report they successfully summited Mt. Everest on May 23rd. The team reached the 8,849-meter (29,032-foot) Everest summit at approximately 8 am (Nepal time) and all reported being in good spirits, most notably because their final summit push was accompanied by favorable weather conditions and relatively few other climbing teams. This is Madson’s 14th successful Everest summit.

“While each expedition is completely different, the feeling of summiting the world’s tallest mountain never gets old,” said Madison, the founder and CEO of Madison Mountaineering, a Seattle-based premier provider of full-service, high-altitude expeditions worldwide. “I couldn’t be prouder of this team who put in the hard work and saw the journey through, safely and victoriously.”

The Everest expedition began on the morning of May 17th, as the team of mostly Americans, including a 19-year-old student, shouldered their packs, emerged from base camp, and set off through the notorious Khumbu Icefall. Over the next five days the team made successive base camps, getting ever closer to their ultimate goal, the summit of Mount Everest

“It’s a big season for us. We’re guiding expeditions on all three of the region’s major peaks – Everest, Lhotse, and Nuptse. Our goal is to guide clients to safe summits of all three peaks in one climbing season. No small task, for sure.”

While smaller than Everest, Nuptse, a sister peak of Everest, is considered by experts to be one of the toughest and most technically difficult peaks to climb.

Madison holds multiple high-altitude mountaineering world records and is the only person to climb Mount Everest and nearby Lhotse in a day, five times. He is the only American to climb K2 three times, and personally has led more climbers to the summits of Mount Everest and K2 than any other expedition leader.

Throughout the year, Madison Mountaineering spearheads challenging climbing expeditions across the world’s highest peaks.

Madison lends his expertise to the development and testing of mountaineering equipment, collaborating with brands to enhance gear performance. He is an athlete ambassador for Mountain Hardwear, a renowned outdoor apparel and equipment company. Notably, Mountain Hardwear features the Garrett Madison Collection, a specialized line of high-altitude expedition gear that bears Madison’s personal design input and endorsement, catering to the demands of extreme alpine environments.
