167 Female Patients File Lawsuits Against Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and OB/GYN Barry J. Brock for Decades-Long Cover-Up of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse

The DiPietro Law Firm Calls for Accountability from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for Enabling and Helping Cover Up Brock’s Crimes

The DiPietro Law Firm and Arias Sanguinetti have filed their third civil lawsuit against disgraced OB/GYN Barry J. Brock and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in the Los Angeles Superior Court. Today’s legal action was filed on behalf of 107 additional women who were exploited and abused by Brock under the guise of medical care at Cedars-Sinai in Beverly Hills. The firms filed two other cases in recent months against both Brock and Cedars-Sinai, bringing the total number of patients filing lawsuits to 167 individual claims.

Just The Beginning

OB/GYN Barry Brock began his affiliation with Cedars-Sinai Medical Center back in the 1970s. According to court documents, patient complaints about Brock’s sexual exploitation and abuse began surfacing decades ago. But instead of protecting patients, Cedars-Sinai chose to protect Brock. “Patients should be able to focus on protecting themselves against medical conditions, not medical providers,” says attorney Anthony T. DiPietro. DiPietro states: “Cedars-Sinai Medical Center knew about Barry Brock’s sexual exploitation and abuse of patients for decades. But instead of protecting their patients, the only thing Cedars did was lie, gaslight, and help cover up Brock’s misconduct—while exposing a countless number of new and unsuspecting patients to a known serial sexual predator. Cedars-Sinai must be held accountable for enabling, and covering up, Barry Brock’s crimes against women.”

In August of 2024, Administrators at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center finally suspended Dr. Brock’s medical privileges on account of Brock’s history of sexual misconduct with patients. After being suspended, Brock attempted to contact several of his patients, telling them in an email that he was planning to “retire”. However, an article published in the Los Angeles Times on September 14, 2024, states Brock was formally terminated by Cedars-Sinai Medical Center as a result of an internal investigation performed by Cedars-Sinai a few weeks after Brock’s original suspension was put in place.

Our office has already been contacted by over 200 former patients of Barry Brock. For the past two decades, Cedars knowingly exposed thousands of women and girls to this serial predator—and our court filings are just the beginning of the larger effort to expose the full extent of this cover-up. Institutions must be held accountable for the role they play in enabling and covering up this kind of abuse.” says attorney DiPietro.

Cedars-Sinai Helped Cover Up Barry Brock’s Crimes

The recent Complaint against Barry J. Brock and Cedars asserts that Cedars-Sinai Medical Center knew about Brock’s long history of sexual exploitation and abuse of women, ignored countless complaints of misconduct filed by patients and co-workers, and did nothing except conspire with Brock to help cover-up his crimes. Despite receiving credible reports about Dr. Brock’s abuse, the Complaint asserts that Cedars-Sinai continued renewing OB/GYN Brock’s medical privileges for decades, creating an environment where physician-on-patient sexual exploitation and abuse was allowed to continue wholly unchecked. “Women continue to come forward with reports about Brock, and the most offensive behavior that one can imagine from an OBGYN,” said attorney Mike Arias.

Accountability Under California Law

The action is filed under California’s Sexual Abuse and Cover-Up Accountability Act (CCP § 340.16), which allows survivors of sexual abuse to seek justice even if their claims were previously time-barred. The law empowers survivors whose claims involve sexual offenses to hold not only their abusers, but also the institutions that protected them, accountable.

“Administrators at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center received countless reports over the years from patients who were being sexually exploited by Brock—as well as from their own employees—but repeatedly failed to take any action to protect their patients,” said attorney Anthony T. DiPietro.
