This is the scene of the latest Nissan Garage Exclusives video, where motorsports expert Laurence Wiltshire gives us an insider’s look at the electrifying performance of the Nissan Formula E GEN3 racecar.

These GEN3 racecars are the fastest to ever compete in Formula E. This year in Season 10, they helped Nissan secure seven podiums, including a victory in the final race of the season in London. The team finished fourth overall this season.

The GEN3 car produces 350 kW of power and can achieve a top speed of 200 mph. And despite being more powerful than the GEN2 car, it weighs 60 kg less. Best of all: The technology being used at Formula E is also found in Nissan’s road cars, including LEAF and Ariya.

Driving them doesn’t just take an immense amount of skill – it also requires the driver to be an outstanding multitasker. Because there is no diagnostic communication between the vehicle and the engineers in the garage, the driver is responsible for relaying information about the vehicle – such as battery temperature and remaining charge.

“They have to speak in a secret language because when they talk on the radio, other teams can hear what they’re saying,” explained Wiltshire, who has been working on Nissan’s motorsports projects since 2008. “Not only does the driver have to be a fast racing driver… they have to be a pretty talented, intellectual racing driver.”

In this edition of Nissan Garage Exclusives, Wiltshire gives us an up-close look at the Nissan Formula E GEN3 car inside the garage just before the Portland E-Prix. Watch the video below to see what makes the GEN3 vehicle Nissan’s most advanced Formula E car ever:
