Medalist Partners Short Duration Fund Receives 5-Star Overall Morningstar Rating™

Medalist Partners, a New York based investment management firm that specializes in structured credit and asset-based private credit, is pleased to announce that the Medalist Partners Short Duration Fund (SEMIX) received a 5-star overall rating from Morningstar as of 6/30/24.

The Institutional share class is rated 5-stars among 204 Ultrashort Bond Funds in the 3-year and overall categories and 113 funds in the 10-year category based on risk adjusted returns.

The Fund's primary objective is to provide a high level of current income while maintaining a focus on preservation of capital through investments across the securitized credit market. The Fund employs an ultrashort fixed income strategy targeting low correlation to short and core fixed income, high current yield, and limited downside volatility and interest rate sensitivity. Institutional and investor classes are available for purchase directly on most major broker dealer platforms.

Greg Richter, CEO of Medalist, said: “We are proud of the fund’s track record and our team’s disciplined investment process, which has enabled us to deliver strong risk-adjusted returns. We believe that the combination of strong credit fundamentals, elevated rates and technical tailwinds continue to create an attractive opportunity in the structured credit market. The Short Duration Fund’s overall characteristics can offer an attractive alternative to cash within a portfolio and provide the potential for investment gains, especially during periods of declining short-term interest rates.”

The Morningstar Rating™ for funds, or "star rating", is calculated for managed products (including mutual funds, variable annuity and variable life subaccounts, exchange-traded funds, closed-end funds, and separate accounts) with at least a three-year history. Exchange-traded funds and open-ended mutual funds are considered a single population for comparative purposes. It is calculated based on a Morningstar Risk-Adjusted Return measure that accounts for variation in a managed product's monthly excess performance, placing more emphasis on downward variations and rewarding consistent performance. The top 10% of products in each product category receive 5 stars, the next 22.5% receive 4 stars, the next 35% receive 3 stars, the next 22.5% receive 2 stars, and the bottom 10% receive 1 star. The Overall Morningstar Rating™ for a managed product is derived from a weighted average of the performance figures associated with its three-, five-, and 10-year (if applicable) Morningstar Rating™ metrics. The weights are: 100% three-year rating for 36-59 months of total returns, 60% five-year rating/40% three-year rating for 60-119 months of total returns, and 50% 10-year rating/30% five-year rating/20% three-year rating for 120 or more months of total returns. While the 10-year overall star rating formula seems to give the most weight to the 10-year period, the most recent three-year period actually has the greatest impact because it is included in all three rating periods. As of 6/30/24 SEMIX received a 4-Star 5-Year Morningstar Rating™ among 186 Ultrashort Bond funds. ©2024 Morningstar, Inc. All Rights Reserved. The fund's investment objectives, risks, charges, and expenses must be considered carefully before investing. The prospectus contains this and other important information. This may be obtained by calling 855-736-7799. Mutual fund investing involves risk. Principal loss is possible. SEMIX invests in debt securities: As interest rates rise, the value of debt securities decrease; whereas prepayment risk tends to occur during periods of declining interest rates. This risk is usually greater for longer-term debt securities. Investments in Mortgage-Backed and Asset Backed Securities include additional risks that investors should be aware of such as credit risk, interest rate risk, prepayment risk, real estate market risk, possible illiquidity and default, as well as increased susceptibility to adverse economic developments. Many of the risks of investing in commercial mortgage-backed securities reflect the risks of investing in the real estate securing the underlying mortgage loans.
