How does ROBOTECH Help Beijing Benz’s Stamping Line Achieve Intelligent Advancement?

Automobile stamping parts are indispensable in automobile manufacturing. 1. About BBAC

Beijing Benz Automotive Co., Ltd. (BBAC) is a joint venture of BAIC Motor Corporation Limited, Mercedes Benz Group Co., Ltd. and Daimler Greater China Investment Co., Ltd., which was officially established in 2005 and has the production capacity of 100000 vehicles annually.

With the continuous improvement of capacity demand, BBAC has created a new generation of global benchmark new factory project in Beijing. It plans to realize the interconnection of the entire factory operation information and capacity breakthrough through digital transformation.

The new factory project covers stamping, welding, painting, final assembly and several auxiliary distribution lines. The large-scale application of automated and intelligent logistics equipment technology adopts high level stereo automatic access system and full-automatic 3D mechanical arm, making a breakthrough in production and manufacturing capacity.

2. Create an automated warehouse for end pickup

As we all know, the end pick is a flexible fixture, which is an essential part of the automatic stamping production line. In stamping production, various stamping parts are absorbed by replacing the end pick. When in use, the end picker is installed on the mechanical arm of the press, and the reciprocating motion of the mechanical arm and the vacuum sucker on the end picker are used to pick and place the stamping raw materials and process parts, so as to realize the automation of handling. From the function, the end picker can be divided into five types: destacking, loading, unloading, and transition turnover.

Each set of end pick ups is composed of these five end picks with different functions. Generally, one stamping part needs to correspond to one set of end pick ups.

In this digital workshop with modern structure, a total of 5 stamping production lines are preset to provide large body parts for the models to be put into production. There are as many as hundreds of matching end pickups. In order to achieve intelligent production management, improve production efficiency and enhance the buffer capacity of the workshop, Weben Electromechanical has planned an overall logistics solution in the factory for it, and ROBOTECH has built an automatic storage system for the end pickups of the stamping line.

ROBOTECH has created an intelligent pallet automated warehouse with two lanes in the 11m warehouse space, which contains about 200 storage spaces. It fundamentally solves the storage requirements of BBAC stamping production line with large categories and quantities of end pick ups, saves space and highly connects the stamping production line, meets the storage and replacement of end pick up tools, and achieves capacity increase in the limited workshop area.

As the pallet carrier of the project is a pickup turnover trolley, it is faced with a huge challenge in the stability and accuracy of warehousing. In order to prevent the end pickup from slipping off the carrier, ROBOTECH added two 270mm high spacer beams at each storage cell end of the crossbeam rack to keep the trolley wheels off the ground and ensure the stability of the end pickup turnover trolley. In addition, anti-skid devices are added at the end of the cargo platform to effectively improve the overall stability and safety factor.
